Fishing in wintering grounds in Odesa region will be prohibited from November 1.

The Odesa fisheries patrol has prohibited fishing in spawning grounds from November 1, 2026, to the start of the 2027 spawning season. Recreational fishing is permitted outside these areas, with a limit of 7 hooks per angler.

The Odesa fisheries patrol has approved a list of wintering grounds where fishing is prohibited from November 1, 2026, to the start of the 2027 fishing season. During the cold season, fish gather in these deep areas for wintering, making them particularly vulnerable to mass fishing.

Outside of the designated ice fishing areas, recreational fishing is permitted, but only with strict adherence to the rules. Fishing on the ice is allowed with all types of winter rods and lures, and in open water, with all types of float, bottom, and spinning rods, using artificial or natural baits. However, the total number of hooks on the fishing gear of one angler should not exceed 7.

In addition, during the autumn-winter period, from the time the ice forms to the time the ice melts, the use of fishing gear with hooks where the distance from the tip of the hook to the tip of the barb exceeds 10 mm is prohibited. The Odesa fisheries patrol urges fishermen to comply with the established rules and to treat the region's biological resources with care. Reports of poaching or violations of fishing regulations can be made to the hotline at (098) 798-47-93.

Meanwhile, on the Yalpug and Kugurui lakes, a large-scale restocking project is underway: more than 1.5 million young carp have already been introduced into the waters.
