A former law enforcement official in Odesa has been arrested for abusing their influence within the Territorial Defense Forces (TDF).

In Odesa, the Kyiv District Court placed a former law enforcement official under arrest, who is suspected of using his influence to improperly obtain disability benefits and remove a conscript from the military registry. The man reportedly demanded 18 thousand dollars for his services.

In Odesa, the Kyiv District Court on October 29 chose a pre-trial detention measure for a former law enforcement official, who is suspected of abusing his power.

According to the investigation, the man offered the conscript the opportunity to receive the third disability group, promising to negotiate with officials from the expert evaluation team responsible for assessing a person's ability to perform daily functions relevant to disability determination. After receiving the medical opinion, he promised to influence officials at the territorial recruitment center to have the conscript removed from military service.

Initially, the individual named a sum of approximately 20 thousand dollars for his services. Later, he agreed to 18 thousand dollars, of which he demanded half for influence on the decision of the medical expert team, and the other half for excluding him from military registration. A conscript contacted law enforcement, who documented the transfer of 9 thousand dollars to the intermediary.

At the end of October, the man was detained and formally accused of abuse of power. The court rejected the request for a night-time house arrest, taking into account the risks of fleeing and influencing witnesses, as well as the suspect's past record with law enforcement. The court set a bail of 665 thousand 600 hryvnias. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
